The output

A dry, stabilized material that is easier to manage.

MAOF removes moisture from poultry mortality through controlled heating and continuous mixing, producing a manageable organic material often described as meat meal.

Process progress

Remaining weight—not moisture percentage.

This video from a South African hatchery compares output discharged at target remaining weights of 20%, 30% and 40% of the original fresh load. These figures refer to remaining weight—not moisture content.

The operator can adjust the target weight. Output above approximately 45% remaining weight may be too damp and may not store satisfactorily.

Handling and use

Local requirements determine the management route.

The discharged material is dry and substantially reduced in weight. Storage, transport and end use must follow the veterinary, environmental and waste requirements that apply locally.

A curious side note: Two MAOF clients have even found a market for the meat meal as dog food—although the regulators may not be quite as enthusiastic. 🙂
